has it come to this?

a few weeks ago,
one of the bunco ladies
offered up her daughter
as a babysitter.
ta-da!

m has a violin concert this week,
so we thought this would be a great
starting point.
mm and i could go with m,
and the little kids could stay here
and play.
or watch spongebob.
we'd be right up the road,
and not gone for long.

perfect.
until i realized...

i'll have to clean our house!
i mean, it's clean-ish, mostly,
i just need to tweak it.
uh yeah, tweak it.

i'm about halfway through the process,
which has included
two days of
clearing out junk drawers,
organizing under the sinks,
cleaning off the top of the microwave,
going through the kids' artwork,
scrubbing the showers,
polishing the kitchen sink with baking soda,
oh, and going through k's winter clothes.
why?!?

i am clearly deranged.
i am cleaning our house for a babysitter.
a 14-year-old babysitter.
again, why?!?

because -
i want her to like us!
really, really, like us.
(and obviously, clean junk drawers will help)

the last shred of my sanity depends on it.

if it makes you feel better, we just did the same thing here for friends who were physically inside the house for maybe 11 minutes.

That is the part of looking for a new sitter I hate the most. I have had the same college student for the past 4 years. She is now used to walking into our "lived in" house. But she is now graduating and getting a real job and we are back to square one. Ugh. But really, why do we do this? I have never walked into someone's house and worried about the dishes in the sink or the laundry in the baskets or dust ANYWHERE!
